影片故事讲述乔什·杜哈明饰演的律师，在追查制药公司顾问(安东尼·霍普金斯饰)受贿案件时，卷入一宗谋杀案中。阿尔·帕西诺饰演的律所老板强势介入，帮助被指控的律师洗清罪名。
